Infant Dental Visits
Your baby’s first dental visit is an exciting milestone, and at Sunbeams Pediatric Dentistry, we make it a gentle and reassuring experience for both parents and little ones. We recommend scheduling your child’s first visit by age one or within six months of their first tooth erupting.
This early visit helps set the stage for a lifetime of healthy smiles and positive dental experiences.
🌞What Happens at an Infant Visit🌞
Infant dental visits are short, relaxed, and focused on education and prevention. Your baby will typically sit comfortably in your lap while we gently examine their gums, emerging teeth, and oral tissues.
We look at how the teeth are developing, check for any early signs of decay, and evaluate oral habits that may affect growth.
🌞Why Early Dental Visits Are Important🌞
Seeing your child early allows us to:
🌞Prevent early childhood cavities
🌞Monitor oral and jaw development
🌞Identify tongue or lip ties
🌞Offer guidance on feeding, teething, and oral hygiene
🌞Help parents feel confident caring for their baby’s smile
Starting dental visits early also helps normalize the dental office, making future appointments
much easier.
🌞Parent Education & Support🌞
A large part of this visit is spent talking with parents. We answer questions about brushing, fluoride, bottle and breastfeeding habits, pacifier use, and teething discomfort. Our goal is to provide guidance that fits your family’s routine and your child’s needs.
🌞 A Gentle First Experience 🌞
There is no pressure, no rushing, and no expectations. We move entirely at your baby’s comfort level and focus on creating a calm, positive introduction to dental care.
What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?
Most dental emergencies fall into one of three main categories:
- Health
- Function
- Aesthetics
Are you unable to eat, or do you have a chipped front tooth that’s too embarrassing to face work or school? If so, you need an emergency dentist who can see you as soon as possible, ideally the same day.
Some of the most common dental emergencies we treat include sharp or broken teeth, gum swelling, pain, and hypersensitivity. Other frequent issues include soft tissue lesions, such as ulcers under dentures, abscessed teeth, and traumatic injuries. Our team is here to provide prompt and compassionate care when you need it most.
