Pulpotomy
Hearing that your child needs nerve treatment can sound intimidating, but a pulpotomy is actually a very common and effective way to save a baby tooth that has been affected by deep decay.
🌞Why a Pulpotomy Is Needed🌞
When decay reaches the nerve of a baby tooth, it can cause pain, sensitivity, or infection. A pulpotomy removes the irritated portion of the nerve while keeping the rest of the tooth healthy and functional.
🌞Why Saving the Tooth Is Important🌞
Baby teeth help with chewing, speech development, and spacing for adult teeth. Preserving them whenever possible helps prevent future complications.
🌞What Happens During the Procedure🌞
The tooth is gently numbed, and the affected nerve tissue is removed. Medication is placed to protect the remaining tooth structure, and the tooth is seale —most often with a crown—to provide long-term stability.
🌞Aftercare & Recovery🌞
Children typically feel relief soon after treatment because the source of discomfort has been removed. Normal eating and activities usually resume quickly.
What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?
Most dental emergencies fall into one of three main categories:
- Health
- Function
- Aesthetics
Are you unable to eat, or do you have a chipped front tooth that’s too embarrassing to face work or school? If so, you need an emergency dentist who can see you as soon as possible, ideally the same day.
Some of the most common dental emergencies we treat include sharp or broken teeth, gum swelling, pain, and hypersensitivity. Other frequent issues include soft tissue lesions, such as ulcers under dentures, abscessed teeth, and traumatic injuries. Our team is here to provide prompt and compassionate care when you need it most.
