Preventive Care

Preventive dental care is the foundation of a healthy smile, and at Sunbeams Pediatric Dentistry, it’s also where trust, confidence, and positive experiences begin. Our preventive visits are designed to do much more than just “check teeth”, they help your child feel comfortable in a dental setting while allowing us to monitor their growth and development over time.

Routine dental visits give us the opportunity to spot small concerns early, before they become painful or require more involved treatment. Just as importantly, they allow your child to build familiarity with our team and environment, making future visits feel easy and routine.

🌞What Preventive Care Includes🌞

Preventive care typically includes a thorough dental exam, professional cleaning, and any necessary digital X-rays. We evaluate your child’s teeth, gums, bite, jaw growth, and oral habits to ensure everything is developing as it should.

We also spend time talking with parents about brushing techniques, diet, thumb sucking, pacifier use, and other habits that can impact oral health.

🌞Why Preventive Visits Matter🌞

Regular preventive care helps:

🌞Catch cavities early or prevent them altogether

🌞Monitor how baby teeth and adult teeth are coming in

🌞Identify bite or spacing concerns early

🌞Reduce the risk of dental emergencies

🌞Build lifelong healthy dental habits

Children who attend routine preventive visits often need less dental treatment over time and feel

far more comfortable at the dentist.

🌞What Your Child Can Expect🌞

Our team takes a gentle, age-appropriate approach at every visit. Cleanings are performed carefully, with frequent check-ins to make sure your child feels comfortable. We explain what we’re doing in kid-friendly language and always move at your child’s pace.

🌞 Our Sunbeams Approach 🌞

Preventive visits at Sunbeams are calm, encouraging, and positive. We celebrate small wins, offer praise often, and create an experience that helps children leave feeling proud of their smile.

What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?

Most dental emergencies fall into one of three main categories:

  1. Health
  2. Function
  3. Aesthetics

Are you unable to eat, or do you have a chipped front tooth that’s too embarrassing to face work or school? If so, you need an emergency dentist who can see you as soon as possible, ideally the same day.

Some of the most common dental emergencies we treat include sharp or broken teeth, gum swelling, pain, and hypersensitivity. Other frequent issues include soft tissue lesions, such as ulcers under dentures, abscessed teeth, and traumatic injuries. Our team is here to provide prompt and compassionate care when you need it most.
