Sealants
Sealants are one of the simplest ways we help protect children’s teeth from cavities, especially during the years when brushing perfectly every time can be challenging. At Sunbeams Pediatric Dentistry, sealants are used proactively to help prevent decay before it ever starts.
🌞Why Back Teeth Need Extra Protection🌞
Molars have deep grooves and pits that easily trap food and bacteria. Even children who brush well may struggle to clean these areas thoroughly. Sealants act as a barrier, sealing out bacteria and reducing the risk of cavities in these vulnerable spots.
🌞What Sealants Are🌞
Sealants are a thin, protective coating applied directly to the chewing surfaces of molars. Once placed, they harden quickly and bond to the tooth, creating a smooth surface that is easier to keep clean.
🌞What the Appointment Is Like🌞
Sealants are placed without drilling or numbing and take only a few minutes per tooth. Your child simply opens wide while the tooth is cleaned, dried, and sealed.
🌞Long-Term Benefits🌞
Sealants can last for several years and are checked during routine visits to ensure they remain intact. They are a simple, preventive step that can significantly reduce the need for fillings later on.
What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?
Most dental emergencies fall into one of three main categories:
- Health
- Function
- Aesthetics
Are you unable to eat, or do you have a chipped front tooth that’s too embarrassing to face work or school? If so, you need an emergency dentist who can see you as soon as possible, ideally the same day.
Some of the most common dental emergencies we treat include sharp or broken teeth, gum swelling, pain, and hypersensitivity. Other frequent issues include soft tissue lesions, such as ulcers under dentures, abscessed teeth, and traumatic injuries. Our team is here to provide prompt and compassionate care when you need it most.
