Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)
SDF is a safe, noninvasive way to stop early cavities without drilling. It is ideal for young, anxious, or special needs children, and for cavities that do not yet require a filling.
What Is SDF?
SDF is a liquid applied directly to cavities that kills bacteria, strengthens the tooth, and prevents decay from progressing.
What Parents Can Expect
The solution is painted onto the affected tooth. The process is quick, painless, and can often be completed in a single visit.
Why It Matters
- Stops early decay
- Prevents the need for drilling
- Ideal for anxious or very young children
- Protects teeth that are difficult to treat
Comfort & Care
SDF is black in color, so the treated tooth will remain dark until a restoration is placed if necessary. This is normal and expected. Your child can eat, drink, and continue normal activities immediately.
What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?
Most dental emergencies fall into one of three main categories:
- Health
- Function
- Aesthetics
Are you unable to eat, or do you have a chipped front tooth that’s too embarrassing to face work or school? If so, you need an emergency dentist who can see you as soon as possible, ideally the same day.
Some of the most common dental emergencies we treat include sharp or broken teeth, gum swelling, pain, and hypersensitivity. Other frequent issues include soft tissue lesions, such as ulcers under dentures, abscessed teeth, and traumatic injuries. Our team is here to provide prompt and compassionate care when you need it most.
